Big Spring Symphony Board of Directors

Dear Friends of the Symphony:

Please join us as we launch the 2026/2027 season of the Big Spring Symphony Orchestra entitled, A Night Out with the Symphony! under the continued energetic and inspiring leadership of our Music Director, Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha. As we embark on our 45th season, we are thrilled to present a series of concerts that will captivate audiences of all ages. Our Saturday night concerts will once again start at 5:30 PM and will be held at the Big Spring Municipal Auditorium.

On September 12th, we launch our season with a concert entitled, “A Night Out in Vienna”, that will celebrate the traditions of Vienna with works composed by

W. A. Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Joseph Haydn. The concert will feature the Bergonzi Trio – violinist John Gilbert, cellist George Work and pianist Richard Fountain performing Beethoven’s spectacular Triple Concerto. Other selections include Haydn’s Symphony 104, “London.” We wish to publicly thank Big Spring Area Community Foundation for sponsoring this concert, as well as the Kickoff event!!!

On December 19th, our symphony will host “A Night Out at the Ballet!” The Big Spring Symphony Orchestra will join Ballet San Angelo in a breathtaking performance, featuring Tchaikovsky’s beloved holiday masterpiece, The Nutcracker! This full ballet production brings Clara’s magical journey, dancing snowflakes, toy soldiers, and the Kingdom of Sweets to life in a celebration for audiences of all ages!

For our Winter concert we want to invite you to a “Night Out at the Movies!” Live orchestral music arranged by Dr. Rocha will be combined with classic live cinema. The orchestra will provide live accompaniment to Buster Keaton’s 1920 silent film One Week, creating a unique cinematic experience. The evening will also feature pianist Sergio Salani, whose music was featured in the movie Texas Rhapsody, which featured the Big Spring Symphony. Salani is an accomplished virtuoso pianist who played himself in the movie. We will be performing music from the movie and present the world premiere of his First Piano Concerto!

This two-day musical event will be an experience you will not want to miss!

The public performance will be Saturday, February 20th.

We close the season on April 24th with “A Jazzy Night Out!” This exciting performance will close our season with a collaboration between the BSSO and the West Texas Jazz Orchestra. The program will celebrate the traditions of jazz and big band music through symphonic arrangements, featuring classic favorites, swing standards and orchestral works inspired by jazz.

We thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you throughout the season!

Musically,

Mark Watt
